Report a damaged cover
Who you should contact about a damaged cover depends on what type of cover it is.
Clean water covers
We are responsible for clean water covers.
This includes:
- water meter covers
- external stop tap covers
- hydrant covers
- washout covers
- sluice valve covers (these typically have ‘SV’ on them).
If there is damage to any of these, please report it to us.
Wastewater covers
Wastewater covers within the boundary of your property are usually your responsibility.
However, if a cover is within your property boundary but is shared with other properties, we would usually be responsible.
We are also usually responsible for covers in public areas and outside the boundary of properties.
If there is damage to a cover that you think we are responsible for, please report it to us.
If there is damage to a cover that is your responsibility, you should contact a local drainage specialist or building contractor.
Roadside gullies
Your local council is responsible for roadside gullies. These are the metal grates/grids that sit at road level.
If you spot a problem with one of these, please contact your local council. You can use GOV.UK's council finder.
Other utilities and telecoms covers
Electricity, gas and telecoms companies are responsible for their respective covers.
If you spot a problem with any of these covers, please contact the relevant company.
