Finding and reading your water meter

If you want to send us a meter reading, follow our advice to find and read your water meter.

You can also use your meter to check for leaks at your property

How to find your meter

You will most likely find your meter near your property's boundary – most meters are fitted near the front garden or pavement. They can usually be found in an underground chamber with a lid marked ‘water’.

If you don't find it outside, it may be inside your home. Indoor meters are typically found near the stop tap, which is usually under the kitchen sink, in your bathroom or near your boiler.

In flats and apartments, water meters can generally be found in the building’s communal cupboards or garages. However, they can sometimes be found inside each individual flat or apartment.
