Flow regulator trial terms and conditions - smart metered customers

Read the full terms and conditions for our flow regulator trial below.

  1. These terms and conditions supplement a letter that you have received regarding a trial that we are conducting to reduce water usage. We are installing a flow regulator as part of this trial on your smart meter. Please note that you may opt out of this trial at any time.

  2. The device we are trialling is a NRv2LoFlo smart valve produced by GroundBreaker Limited. This flow regulator device will regulate the flow of water into your home while maintaining an appropriate level of service. Please be aware that the device may reduce the flow of water into your home.

  3. These terms and conditions apply to the installation of a flow regulator on a trial basis on your water supply and the provision of a voucher. In return for your participation, we will send you one £25 electronic voucher. To be eligible to receive a voucher, you must remain in the trial for the entire two weeks, and complete the survey provided to you at the end of the trial.

  4. At the start of the trial, we will install this device on your smart meter. We will then monitor its performance for two weeks. It is important for you to continue to use water as you normally do throughout the trial so that we can determine the performance of the device accurately. At the end of the trial, you may either keep the device or ask us to remove it. We will also ask you to complete a survey where you can tell us about your experience with the device, which will make you eligible for the voucher as stated above.

  5. We have randomly selected your home for this trial from a pool of our customers who have smart meters installed, as this will allow us to collect data about the efficiency of this device without installing a separate data logger. We will install the device external to your property and therefore no access to your property will be required.

  6. We have selected homes for this trial on the basis of the information available to us. Please immediately notify us if anyone in your household has health or accessibility issues or any other circumstances which may be affected by a reduced flow of water into your home. Please email saving.water@wessexwater.co.uk or call 0345 600 4 600.

  7. In order to conduct this trial, we will be collecting some of your data, but this will only be shared with our research partner, WRc, on an anonymised basis – meaning that WRc will not be able to identify you from the information they process on our behalf. We will use your personal data to contact you at the end of the trial in order to send you the survey and £25 voucher. Any personal data we collect about you will be deleted after the trial has completed unless we must keep this for legal or other mandatory reasons. Our lawful basis for gathering information about your water usage through the trial is under a legitimate interest to gauge the performance of the flow regulator device fitted in terms of the amount of water use it can save. For further information about how we process your personal data and your rights, please see our privacy policy.

  8. You may opt out of your participation in the trial at any time and for any reason by contacting saving.water@wessexwater.co.uk, however please be aware that you will no longer be eligible to receive the £25 participation voucher. We may terminate the trial or your participation in the trial at any time for any reason, for instance if we find problems with the device. If we terminate the trial or your participation in the trial before you complete the survey, you may not be eligible for the £25 voucher. We may also make changes to the trial at any time if necessary and we will inform you of this.

  9. The trial will last a total of two weeks, with some time at the end to collect survey data. During the trial, you must not remove the device yourself or tamper with it in any way. If you do tamper with the device, you acknowledge that you will be responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of your actions. If you experience any problems with the device, please inform us of this immediately.

  10. If you elect to keep the device at the end of the trial, ownership of the device will transfer to you at that time. Wessex Water will remain responsible for any loss or damage that you suffer as a result of our own actions or omissions, but otherwise we will give no warranty or guarantee and will make no representation in relation to the device once it has transferred to you. After that point, you will be responsible for the device and any fault or defect in the device will be your responsibility.
