Report a flood
If you have spotted a flood, find out who to contact depending on where it is coming from.
Sewer flooding
These are some of the signs of sewer flooding:
- sewage has backed up into your home, garden or the street
- an unpleasant smell is coming from the flood
- waste, such as tissues and wipes, is visible
- it happened after heavy rainfall or a blockage.

River flooding
These are some of the signs of a flooded river, brook or stream:
- water levels in a watercourse look unusually high
- water is flowing over the edges of a watercourse
- the flooding is near a known watercourse.

Surface water flooding
These are some of the signs of surface water flooding:
- rain is not draining properly
- water is pooling on streets and low-lying areas
- it happened quickly after heavy rainfall
- there is no obvious source.

Groundwater flooding
These are some of the signs of groundwater flooding:
- water is coming up through the ground
- it happened days or weeks after heavy rainfall
- it has lasted a long time (weeks or months)
- the water is coming from an unusual place.

Highway flooding
These are some of the signs of highway flooding:
- water is pooling on a road, motorway or highway
- you can see a blocked road gully caused it
- it happened after heavy rainfall.
